Playground at Sports Reserve

Hanmer Springs Sports Reserve's playground pairs standard swing-and-slide equipment for younger children with a rope swing and climbing wall that give older kids something to work for, plus a nearby skate park for scooters and bikes. It's the practical free alternative locals send visitors to when the thermal pools get busy, about a ten-minute walk from the pools complex on Jacks Pass Road.

Equipment

Younger children have a climbing frame, an infant swing and a multi-play structure with a slide, set on a gravel surface with two gazebos and shade sails covering part of the play area. Older kids get a rope swing and a climbing wall with real grip, and adult exercise equipment is dotted around the perimeter for parents who want to move while they watch.

Toilets, picnic tables and off-street parking are on site, and Hurunui District Council operates a smokefree policy across the reserve. Established in 2016, the playground sits within the wider Sports Reserve, which also has tennis and netball courts and open playing fields.
