Really great playground attached to a wonderful park with lovely walking tracks. Well set out with something for most ages. Would love to see them add some more attractions as there is plenty of space. Also great having the takeaways and dairy right there to enjoy.
Sherwood Playground
145 Glencoe Road, Browns Bay, Auckland 0630
Why these ages?
Themed play zoned across three areas: infant swing + basket swing + toddler-scaled slide set apart from the 30m obstacle course, plus mini playhouse and mini castle for littles, castle+drawbridge+bird's nest tower for older kids. Reviewers confirm 'perfect for kids of different aged from babies to teens'. Duck pond is in the wider reserve on the walking trail, not adjacent to play surface.
Access notes
A level path runs from the car park to the castle pavilion entrance, but the play surface itself is a mix of woodchip and bark. A review specifically flags the wood chips as unsafe for those with difficulty walking after they wash down the paths in heavy rain.
What's here
Browns Bay's playground answers the fairy tale brief literally: a wooden castle pavilion guards the entrance, and a drawbridge leads children into Sherwood Reserve's play area on Auckland's North Shore. The Sherwood Forest theme is carried through consistently, from the entrance pavilion to the smallest details.

Much of the wooden equipment was carved by inmates from the Northland Regional Corrections Facility, and a 30-metre obstacle course was designed following suggestions from Northcross Intermediate students.
