Waiau Village Green Reserve Playground sits at the heart of one of North Canterbury's quietest and most picturesque small towns, a rural service centre of around 270 people on the Waiau Uwha River, thirty kilometres east of Hanmer Springs and on the main road of the Inland Kaikoura Route. The village green is the social centre of the township, and the playground is part of a wider reserve that brings together a picnic area, public toilets, an information board, and a small museum housed in a historic cob cottage. For passing families on a road trip through the high country, it is an ideal stop to stretch legs and let children run.
