You can reach Atawhai Park the easy way or the hard way. The hard way is to walk all the way up the hill following the Bledisloe to Old West Road walkway, when Atawhai Park appears as a nice resting point halfway your walk (and a nice distraction for moaning kids). The easy way is to drive up the hill. The easy way leaves you at the entrance of the walkway, an expanse of some 100mts of grass and uncertainty, until you reach the bend on the path and the playground appears in all its glory. It is quite an accomplished playground for being up the hill, with some seats, shade, a rubbish bin here and there, and a picturesque view of the Tararua Range. Not bad! Parking is on the street, and may be okay the day you go, but there are too many yellow-line restrictions to be sure.

Quiet little playground that is a bit tricky to find at first. Lots of play equipment and a basketball hoop.

I gave it five start as it is a quiet and private park meeting the needs as a park for that locality. It has three slides, two swings, and some fun monkey bar type things. It has a huge ground next to it, older kids can play some games …

Kids loved the good sized playground, the basketball hoop, and the grassed area to run around. I liked that the area is set back off the road so I didn't have to worry about the kids running away from me and straight into traffic. The only negative was when the little one announced that he needed to go toilet but we couldn't see one nearby. Fortunately we managed to find a lemon(wood) tree to take care of the formalities.

Nice and quiet little playground for the kids. Can become sun burning hot straight from mid morning on sunny days as there is no shade sails anywhere.
