Ballinger Park Playground

Ballinger Park Playground is a medium-sized reserve in Riversdale, Blenheim, where wooden fortress-style structures link two large soil mounds, joined by a flying fox running between them. A slide and a seesaw-style swing sit alongside a standard swing set with an infant swing, giving younger children a way into the space while older kids take on the mounds and flying fox. Open grass around the equipment suits families wanting room for ball games or kite flying alongside the structured play.

Equipment

The wooden structures connecting the two soil mounds are the centrepiece, with a flying fox running between them for children old enough to manage the ride. A slide and a swing-seesaw add further variety, and the swing set's infant swing is the one piece specifically suited to toddlers. An artificial surface covers the play area underfoot.

Access and Inclusion

Seating, picnic tables, and a gazebo sit around the play area, with a barbecue also on site for families extending their visit. Shade is mixed: some trees shade part of the equipment and the seating and picnic tables, the gazebo has a slatted roof that lets some UV through, and established trees elsewhere in the park will provide more shade later in the day.

Practical Info

On-street parking is available on Ballinger Drive. The playground predates 2007, and Marlborough District Council applies a smokefree policy across the reserve.
