Oliver Park

The flying fox is the standout feature at Oliver Park, a fenced playground in Redwoodtown, on the southern edge of northern Blenheim, that draws families from across town. Best suited to ages 2 to 12.

Equipment

The fenced main playground has a flying fox, a multi play structure with slide, standard and infant swings, seesaws, a pendulum swing and an overhead ladder. A separate fenced Plunket junior playground sits alongside for toddlers, and a sealed learn to ride track with road markings and a small intersection adjoins a wooden bike track for rougher riding. The council's own notes describe a huge selection of equipment, from the under fives fenced area with timber fortress, swings, slide and spring toys, through to the fenced bike track, flying fox, scale swings, seesaws and modular playground.

Access and Inclusion

Public toilets sit in the northeast corner near the Redwoodtown Community Centre, with on street parking around most of the park's perimeter. The fenced main and junior zones help with toddler supervision, and dogs are permitted in the wider park but not inside the fenced play areas.

History and Cultural

Oliver Park is Redwoodtown's principal community reserve, with winter rugby, rugby league and football and summer cricket on its sports fields. The Plunket junior playground reflects the long running Plunket and council partnerships seen across New Zealand for dedicated toddler play spaces.

Practical Info

Marlborough District Council operates a smokefree policy at the park. The young trees around the site currently give limited midday shade, though this will increase as they grow.
