Why these ages?

Fenced junior zone explicitly separates youngest visitors from larger equipment - the setup parents of 2-4yos want. Artificial grass surface stays usable in wet weather. Skate park sits within the wider green (separate zone, not adjacent to the play area). Interactive water puzzle is play-scale not drowning-scale; adjacent swimming pool is gated with paid entry. Small carousel, junior slide, spring rocker, infant swing, musical play cater to under-5s. Climbing net, spinner and skate bowl hold older kids. Green Flag site.

Access notes

The description explicitly names dedicated mobility parking near the green, and a review independently describes the play surface as all artificial grass so it stays dry underfoot, though no path or toilet accessibility detail is given.

Havelock North Village Green in the middle of the township centres on a large, varied playground, from a full water play feature to a climbing net and climbing structure, that draws families well beyond a quick stop. The green also holds a skate park and sits right next to the public swimming pool, so it works as an all afternoon outing rather than a five minute play break. Dogs are welcome on the surrounding lawns too, making it as much a village meeting point as a play stop.

  • HistoryThe reserve was originally registered as the Havelock Recreation Ground in 1888. From the 1930s it was mainly used for rugby and cricket, and the Eric Phillips designed cricket pavilion opened to the public in 1938. During the 2017 redevelopment the historic pavilion was relocated onto the new playground site; the community raised half of an estimated $300,000 relocation cost, and it was renamed the Mackersey Family Pavilion after the Mackersey family's $150,000 contribution.

  • HistoryThe current Village Green playground reopened after a full refurbishment in 2017; new equipment donated by the Mackersey family included a double see-saw and outdoor musical instruments, and the surface was rebuilt in recycled rubber tyres, the same material used at Cornwall Park's playground.

Lovely town space and os thoroughly used by the locals. Large play area for the kids with plenty of seating for adults. Clean public toilets and a convenient space that you can hire that opens on to a concreted deck, has all amenities. Lined with tress and a happy view of the village. Handy to local shops, cafes, the library and function centre. Great place to relax and chill with family and friends.

The Havelock North Village Green is a nice little spot close to the shops. The playground, although due to be improved was good for smaller kids, but didn't have a lot to offer the older. With the exception of the skate park that is. The …

Had fun last n8ght with friends at the Picnic Cinema Out door in Havelock North. It featured House of Gucci with Lady Gaga. Last show last night and because we showed up during the event when it rained a bit, I think everyone was given a free ticket for March 2022 when they come back again. Lovely organization. 😍 …

A truly great area to take children of all ages to. A playground that children will enjoy and plenty of grass to run around. This village green is an asset to Havelock North, hopefully it does not get vandalized like similar parks in other areas.
