Why these ages?

Infant swing, basket swing, tot-friendly embankment slide and a bike-sized road with roundabout and stop signs make it a genuinely good all-ages neighbourhood park. Flat terrain suits pushchairs. Karehana Bay Beach a short walk away is the main hazard; not fenced. Fine supervised, not let-them-roam.

Access notes

Porirua City Council describes this reserve as flat, noting the terrain suits pushchairs and mobility needs better than most nearby reserves, but the play equipment sits on a bark surface, which limits wheelchair access despite the flat approach.

This is a hidden gem, super tidy, gardens are well looked after heaps of room and just a totally pleasant place to chill with kids. There are a good amount of different activities for a range of age groups. Will definitely come back.

We love Karehana Park! The playground has a natural feel to it. The fort caters for bigger kids, while there's a tot friendly slide on a small embankment. Bucket and adult swings as well as a great basket swing that both swings and spins. Surrounding the playground is a bike sized road, complete with roundabout and stop signs to practice riding. There's a large picnic table and good seating for parents. Plenty of space to run and kick a ball, and a full drinking fountain too. You can't see the playground from the road, but can walk in via pathed walkway from both Cluny and Airlie Roads.

This park needs some real attention. It has deeply pooled dirty water in both the play areas that have been sitting and growing gunk for a while. Do not recommend until City Council clears the water problem by the play sets.

Lovely setting not too far from the beach. Great wee skate park, playground and picnic area. Recently installed water fountain close by. Dog park section also here. Boggy in winter but a good path around the perimeter. A small stream runs alongside but is not fenced off so supervision is required. Only downside is no toilets nearby.

We love this playground. Suitable for bikes and scooters as there is a cool track as well as playground equipment. Play ball etc on the large field. The only down side is there isn't a toilet on site, a short walk to the beach finds one. Or bush wees for kids.
