Mangere Domain Playground

Mangere Domain Playground in Māngere Bridge, Auckland, is a large, well equipped play space combining traditional equipment with natural obstacles, including a Maori design multi-play structure with a slide, a climbing net, balance logs, a see-saw, and an inground carousel. A skatepark and a basketball court with functional hoops sit alongside the playground within the wider domain.

Equipment

The play zone is anchored by a pendulum swing, a swing set with an infant swing and a high back swing, a tubular slide, an embankment slide, climbing nets and a climbing pole, balance beams, musical instruments, and the inground carousel, a rare find at a neighbourhood scale playground. Surfacing combines artificial turf with bark chip.

Access and Inclusion

A fenced junior area with its own infant swing keeps toddlers separate from the bigger structures, and the high back swing supports children who need extra postural support. Public toilets and picnic tables are on site, and angle parking including mobility spaces is available on Domain Road. Bus routes 36 and 38 stop nearby.

History and Cultural

The domain sits at the foot of Te Pane o Mataoho, also known as Mangere Mountain, one of Auckland's significant volcanic maunga, and hangi pits within the domain reflect its ongoing use for cultural gatherings.

Mangere Bridge township, with its cafes and shops, is a short walk away for families extending the visit.
