What's here
Te Awamutu's War Memorial Park is a much-loved heritage green space centred on the Mangahoe Stream, featuring a duck pond, ornamental fountain, rose gardens, and shaded walkways that have made it a family favourite for generations. In May 2024, a brand-new $460,000 playground opened inside the park, designed with the local RSA, mana whenua, and landscape designer Brodiehailwood, featuring a timber fort with artwork by Waikato artist Dannika Tukua, slides, swings, balance play, and musical and sensory elements. The park has ample parking, public toilets, and plenty of picnic tables shaded by mature trees, making it an easy half-day destination. Accessible throughout for pushchairs and wheelchairs, and the duck pond is a guaranteed hit with younger kids. A lovely spot that combines playground time with a walk along the stream and Pioneer Track.
