Omaka Landing Playground

Omaka Landing Playground is a medium-sized neighbourhood playground in a residential subdivision in Burleigh, Blenheim, built around a flying fox and a run of varied equipment: a carousel, standard swings, a basket swing, climbing equipment, a model plane, a rope ring, and balance logs. It suits a wide age range, with the basket swing and model plane best for toddlers and the flying fox and climbing equipment drawing older children and adults, and an open lawn around the equipment leaves room for ball games.

Equipment

The flying fox is the standout piece, built for an all-ages ride rather than a toddler-only feature. Around it sit a carousel, a set of standard swings, a basket swing, climbing equipment, a model plane, a rope ring, and balance logs, giving the reserve more variety than a typical neighbourhood park. The basket swing and model plane are the pieces best suited to the youngest visitors, while the balance logs and climbing equipment suit primary-aged children. A drinking fountain and seating sit on site, and an artificial surface runs under the play area.

On-street parking is available in the surrounding residential streets, with access into the reserve from the subdivision's own street network. There is no shade over the play equipment or seating, though young trees planted around the park may provide some shade as they mature, so families visiting at midday in summer should plan accordingly.

Marlborough District Council manages the reserve as an open neighbourhood park with a smokefree policy in place. The playground opened within the last five years, and the open lawn beside the equipment adds room for informal ball games once children have worked through the play structures.
