Why these ages?

Great beachfront play space (rocktopus, tubular slide, playhouse, infant swing, basket swing, sandpit, shade sail) but a parent reviewer nails it: 'one side is a main road [Hibiscus Coast Highway] and the other the ocean… no fence… tiring to watch child so closely'. Toddler zone equipment is present but the setting demands constant one-on-one supervision. Older kids can enjoy the beach and playground combo more freely.

Access notes

Description confirms a step free entrance and a flat run from the car park keeping prams and scooters rolling easily, and a review notes wheelchair access to amenities and easy access toilets. However the play equipment itself sits on a bark surface, a hard barrier once at the equipment.

Orewa Reserve is the beachfront park at the heart of Orewa, on Auckland's Hibiscus Coast, its play area just a few steps from three kilometres of sand. It sits among a string of playgrounds strung along Hibiscus Coast Highway, part of what makes this stretch of coast such a magnet for family days out.

This playground is one of the faves in our house. All the things the kids love to play on. Toilets close by, ice cream not too far, beach for when they need a break or cool down.

Not the best playground for younger kids, you are better off just heading down to the water

We were looking to use the Bbq's in this location and they were all filthy. Park, Toilet Facilities and beach are the main attraction.

Other than tiring to watch child so closely as one side is a main road and the other the ocean, the playground itself is one of the best. It's too bad there's no fence or in a quieter place because it's one of my child's favorites in orewa. 5/5.

Not much to do for older kids, ages 9-11.
