Picton Memorial Park Playground

Picton Memorial Park Playground is a medium sized play area built around a nautical themed boat structure with a wheelchair ramp onto the main climbing deck, suiting children from toddlers through to around age ten. Swings, a supernova spinner, a climbing net, and a junior multi play structure with slide surround the boat, while a splash pad and paddling pool add a water play option that runs 9am to 9pm through summer.

Equipment

The boat structure anchors the site, its ramp giving wheelchair users direct access to the main climbing deck alongside other children. Interactive sensory panels built into the structure add tactile and auditory play. A supernova spinner, swings, and a climbing net extend the range for older children, while a junior multi play structure with slide and the splash pad and paddling pool suit younger visitors. Complex and junior play equipment sit side by side across the site, along with dedicated swing bays.

Access and Inclusion

Soft protective padding covers the entire play area, supporting wheelchair and pushchair movement across the site, and the ramp onto the boat structure lets children using wheelchairs join the main climbing zone rather than being limited to ground level equipment. Modern accessible toilets and a drinking fountain are on site. Shade sails cover part of the junior play space and its seating, with further shade sails over an adjoining grassed area.

Practical Info

Off street parking serves the site. Picnic tables and seating are provided across the grounds. The splash pad and paddling pool run 9am to 9pm during summer. Dogs are prohibited across the entire foreshore area, including the beach and car park. Marlborough District Council maintains a smokefree policy covering the playground, which was established in 2018.
