Best suited to

Why these ages?

Multi-play with slide, infant swing, basket swing, see-saw on Matta Tiles - well suited to 2-8. Description explicit: 'reserve is unfenced and opens onto surrounding streets, parents of very young walkers should keep an eye at the edges'. Papanui side streets not called busy/arterial so no formal road risk, but no perimeter fence means has-toddler-zone not toddler-friendly. Off-leash dog area adds parental load.

Accessibility
Partial access
+ Poured rubber surface (firm for wheels)
Access notes

The multi play structure sits on a Matta Tiles surface, a firm rubber tile safety surface rather than loose bark, giving smoother wheeled access. No dedicated accessible parking or toilet is specifically described though, only general on street parking and public toilets.

St James Park playground sits under a canopy of mature trees in Papanui, Christchurch, and that canopy defines the whole feel of the reserve: dappled shade in summer, a carpet of fallen leaves in autumn, and the settled park air that older Christchurch reserves build up over decades. It suits ages two to eight best, with a multi-play structure, swings and a see-saw scaled for preschool and early primary years.

Great park, was awesome to see soany dog walkers, and preschoolers having a play. My pup even had the the opportunity to do some exposure to noise. The photo posted is blurred to protect the ID of the young ones

Nice park tucked away. So close to northlands but so peaceful. Older style playground with lots of beautiful trees. Plenty of space for kids to run around in too

Great little playground, needs a bit of TLC and is in a lot of shadow so quite mossy, but awesome park and great to play in the leaves!

I am very disappointed about the glass all over the playground and the dog poop everywhere. I don't think any of the people around pick up after their dogs. I think my dog was the only one on a leash.
