Playgrounds in Kaipara

Mangawhai Heads is where Kaipara families actually drive to for a big playground day. The Activity Zone there is a fenced, boat themed junior playground that anchors a much larger free recreation park, built from a 2008 parent led push for a safe place to skate. Kids get a flying fox, a bike track, climbing gear, a sandpit and water play, plus swings and slides, with shaded picnic tables, toilets and parking right beside the park. The equipment set skews school age and big kids, so plan a day of pedaling and climbing rather than slow sandpit time. Away from Mangawhai the rest of the district runs quieter and further apart, so treat this one as the trip worth planning around.
