Bonnie Brae Reserve

Bonnie Brae Reserve is a pocket of lawn on Bonnie Brae Road in Meadowbank, Auckland, with a small public playground just back from the footpath and dense bush closing in along its lower edge. Auckland Council lists it as a public-access playground at 10 Bonnie Brae Road.¹ It is a spot neighbours walk to rather than a destination, and a Meadowbank suburb guide names it alongside Rutherford Reserve as one of the suburb's kids' playgrounds.²

Equipment

Aerial imagery shows a compact play area on a loose bark or gravel base: a two-seat swing frame and a small climbing unit of two low towers joined by a bridge, with a bench on the edge of the surfacing. The scale suits under-fives and early primary-age children; older kids will be through it in minutes. One parent wrote that the playground was upgraded in October 2021 and that local children had started a "Meadowbank Spoonville" of decorated wooden spoons there.

Practical Info

The play area is unfenced and sits only about a dozen metres from the footpath, so keep an eye on runners heading for the street, and on the bush edge below. A large tree beside the climbing unit gives part of it some shade; the swings are in the open. The aerial shows no toilet block or car park, so park on Bonnie Brae Road. Tahapa Reserve West, about half a kilometre away, is the next playground over if the kids want more.
