Kennedy Park Playground

Kennedy Park playground sits on the clifftop headland above Castor Bay on Auckland's North Shore, with sweeping views across to Rangitoto Island and a play mix built around a big rope climbing pole rather than the usual slide and swing set. It suits toddlers through to primary age, with a separate preschool area alongside the main equipment.

Equipment

The main area has a junior slide, swings, sand play, a large rope climbing pole, a merry go round, a hammock, and a bouncer, all on a bark surface. A separate preschool and junior play area nearby adds a rock wall, its own slides, and swings, giving toddlers a self contained space away from the bigger kids.

Access and Inclusion

An accessible toilet sits in the car park, and on street parking includes mobility spaces. Gates open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter, and access is from Beach Road.

History and Cultural

The headland carries real wartime weight: WWII gun emplacements and tunnels remain on the clifftop, part of the North Shore's coastal defence network, and an observation post on the park has been documented as part of that history. The current play equipment dates to 2012, and a dramatic staircase drops from the park down to Castor Bay Beach on the North Shore Coastal Walk.
