Luckens Reserve

Luckens Reserve is a medium sized playground in West Harbour, Auckland, pairing swings and slides with a basketball half-court and a skatepark right alongside it. A fenced junior area keeps toddlers separate from the bigger kids' equipment, and a BBQ, drinking fountain, and picnic tables make it easy to stay for a while.

Equipment

The playground includes a tubular slide, swings with an infant swing, and a multi-play structure with its own slide, set on bark surfacing within a fenced junior area for the youngest visitors. The adjoining skate ramp and basketball half-court give older kids and teenagers their own space.

Access and Inclusion

A sealed, paved path circles the reserve and suits buggies and wheelchairs, though steep sections beyond the reserve boundary can be harder going. An off-street car park opens from Marina View Drive, 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter, with further pedestrian access from the northern end of Renoir Street and a walkway between 23 and 25 Mansion Court. An off-leash dog area is also on site.

Practical Info

Luckens Reserve sits on the West Harbour foreshore with views across the Waitematā Harbour, and has been a neighbourhood fixture since before 2008. Winter can bring mud to the playground and court areas, so summer is the easier time to visit.
