Beautiful pram friendly walks along the river but be alert, trails are also used by cyclists. The children's play park is well equipped but do not walk across the grass after rain. The area was formally a wetland and it gets very boggy. The area is def definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a quiet stroll.
Otaihanga Domain Playground
31 Makora Road, Otaihanga 5036
Why these ages?
Genuine toddler consideration — a dedicated toddler-sized climbing wall, two baby swings, low multi-play with slide. But the site 'sits beside the Waikanae River' with a walking option along the river bank right after, so a wandering 2-4yo has water within reach. River is distance-buffered from the play equipment itself but not fenced off. Was formerly a wetland (boggy after rain).
Access notes
Description states the playground surface is bark, a barrier for wheelchair users. A review warns not to walk across the surrounding grass after rain as the former wetland area gets very boggy, reinforcing the surface barrier. Parking is on street only.
What's here
Two climbing walls run at Otaihanga Domain Playground, one sized for toddlers and a taller one for older kids, tied together by a spider web climbing net. Four swings sit alongside, including two baby swings, and a multi-play structure with a slide rounds out the play equipment.
