This is such a lovely playground. It spans quite a distance along the waterfront. There is lots for kids to do and for various ages and stages. The view out to the waterfront is really lovely. We enjoyed watching the seaplane and helicopter fly in and out. The grounds are well maintained and they have toilets available too. The tearrific truck and coffee truck are a nice addition to stop for a drink on your way out.
Lakefront Playground
Lakefront Drive, Ohinemutu, Rotorua 3010
Why these ages?
Massive destination play zoned for ages 1-14: younger corner with sand/digger/spring/embankment slide plus dual flying foxes, basket swing, skatepark and half-basketball for older kids. Sits directly on Lake Rotorua edge with no fencing described. Skatepark on the same site. Fantastic child+tween fit; toddler zone is real but perimeter water is unmitigated.
Access notes
The description states the whole play area sits on artificial turf giving prams and mobility aids a firm surface, with a flat, open layout that is easy to move between pieces. Accessible parking and toilet are not specifically confirmed in the text.
What's here
Lakefront Playground sits right on the edge of Lake Rotorua on Lakefront Drive, and it is one of the largest, most generously equipped free play spaces in the Bay of Plenty. Dual flying foxes, a tubular novelty slide, and a full swing bank make it a genuine destination for ages 1 to 14, not just a stopover.
