About Ōtorohanga

What it's like for kids.

A truck and a ferry make unlikely playground equipment, but the Jim Barker Memorial Playground at Reg Brett Reserve on Huiputea Drive builds climbable versions of both, honouring the Otorohanga Transport Ltd and Strait Shipping businesses of the man who gave it his name. It's Ōtorohanga's one true destination playground, threading Kiwiana touches like a Buzzy Bee and a rugby-post entrance through the gear, plus water play, stepping logs and log scrambles, and a timber boardwalk with a flying fox crossing wetland plantings. A skate park and basketball court sit alongside for older kids. Combine it with a stroll along the town's Kiwiana walkway of murals and giant icons on the main street before heading back out into the King Country.
