About Masterton

What it's like for kids.

Family play in this Wairarapa town gathers along the Waipoua stream, where Queen Elizabeth Park holds the day-out pick. Kids Own Playground inside it is a big community-built scene built around a wooden castle, playhouses and a train-themed unit, with a flying fox and slides for primary-school kids and a fenced junior area alongside for toddlers. Out in Lansdowne, Burling Park is the modern suburb option after its 2022 refit, with a double flying fox, a basket swing and toilets on site.

For a quieter run, McJorrow Park on the east side sits by the river with a rotonet, monkey bars and a climbing frame, plus a swing set with an infant bay beside a fenced junior zone. South Park in Kuripuni pairs swings and a climbing frame with open green shared by the local softball ground, and Beniorns Park in the west is a small neighbourhood stop with swings and a seesaw among native plantings. Parking is easy at all of them except summer Saturdays at Queen Elizabeth Park, where the Dixon Street side streets fill first.
