Balclutha carries the weight of Clutha's playground offer, with Naish Park's tower and tube slides a few streets from the swings and climbing frame at the foot of Balclutha Bridge, an easy pair to walk between on a fine afternoon. Beyond town, the play spaces thin out fast: Owaka Lions Club Playground, fenced and fitted with a climbing frame and slide, is the stop locals rate best in the whole Catlins, a stop on the Southern Scenic Route. Lawrence's new Whitehaven Street build, opened for summer 2024-25 after a four-year community project, shelters its climbing gear under shade sails against the inland sun.
Kaka Point's rebuilt playground sits metres from the beach, an easy add to a Catlins day trip past the seal colony. Distances here are real, so plan around one town rather than several. Wet-weather cover is thin; the toilets at Naish Park and Owaka are the reliable stops on a longer loop.
